An Eighth Air Force Navigator ~ MY WAR
Howard Sinnamon and his identical twin brother, Bob, volunteered for service in the U.S. Army in March 1942. In
April, both were accepted and transferred to the Army Air Corps as aviation cadets. Following 15 weeks of navigation
training, including radio and celestial operation, they were graduated as navigators and commissioned as second
lieutenants, Air Corps Reserve. Howard flew on 15 combat missions as navigation officer on B-17 Flying Fortresses,
including invasions of Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944. Also, eight of his missions were with the famed 8th Air
Force Pathfinders. Twin brother, Bob, was lost on a mission over Schweinfurt, Germany on October 14, 1943.
